  This way to Wartek

By: Sally Bolton

Indonesiaphiles will know that a warung is a small family-run business, usually selling food. The Kopernik ‘family’ likes to cook (especially on clean, fuel-efficient cookstoves!), but we’re not quite ready to launch a food stall, so we’ve launched a technology stall instead – a Warung Teknologi, or Wartek for short.

The light works great. Just set it under bright light and press the button to turn it on when needed. Simple and very straight forward. Works great as a backup in case of power outage.

The S10 performance was disappointing, with little discernible difference between the two light levels, and a run time far less than claimed. This may very well be a battery issue, which then calls the quality assurance of d.light into question. I have contacted d.light through their website and they advise all of their products are under warranty, and that I will receive a replacement S10. They also advise that improved products will be out by February. Under a week is a terrific response time for the holidays, and I am impressed.

Attractive design. Best used for bedroom, kitchen, and livingroom. Good for personal use.

Compact, light, many many gallons can be filtered. Very nice to have when back packing or camping. The only thing that could make this thing better is if every xxx sold they would donate one to a place in need around the world.

Seems like a good light so far, but it is missing the AC adapter (it claims to be chargable via AC). There is no info about how to obtain the correct AC charger for this item either. Some seem to have gotten a charger and some have not from what i see in the other reviews. With the the ac adapter i would upgrade it to 4 or 5 stars... but without it product is lacking.

Brighter than a candle, but not nearly as bright as a 60-watt light bulb. I also purchased the S10 solar LED lantern. The S10 shines in all directions, while the S1 is more like a spot light. If I were to choose between the two types, I would go with the S10 because it appears to be brighter and does shine evenly in all directions. Both the S1 and S10 are bright enough to use for reading, but I would not want to read for too long using them.

  Kerosene light in Alor

Kopernik has been implementing a project in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara and I have been very grateful to be in charge of that project. I always enjoy going there to monitor the progress and see the impact of the technologies we distributed in people’s lives. Now I am leading another exciting project on the exotic island of Alor which is also located in East Nusa Tenggara Province.

It was a Saturday night when I walked in the sidewalk of Malioboro. It is the perfect place and time to go out and enjoy the night ambience of Yogyakarta. This city is always more romantic on a Saturday night. In the end of the road, in front of Museum Serangan Umum 1 Maret to be precise, I stopped. There are some youths playing with their skateboard and group of cyclists with vintage costume gather around. Tomorrow is Sunday, I have no reason to be rushed.
