Water is an essential part of our life. However, access to clean water is a common problem in developing countries especially in rural areas. Families in rural areas usually have no pipe water connection at home and have to rely on rain water or some have to go fetching water from the river, well, or natural spring. In Matungu District, Western Kenya, women and children have the responsibility to provide water for their household.

It’s no secret that kerosene wick lamps are a terrible technology in all sorts of ways – I give them zero stars out of five.

Indonesiaphiles will know that a warung is a small family-run business, usually selling food. The Kopernik ‘family’ likes to cook (especially on clean, fuel-efficient cookstoves!), but we’re not quite ready to launch a food stall, so we’ve launched a technology stall instead – a Warung Teknologi, or Wartek for short.

Kopernik recently published on its site the impact assessment for the three-month program in Timor-Leste entitled Bring Clean, Bright Light to Atauro. The program involved the distribution of 200 solar lights to the village of Biqueli, Atauro Island (Timor Leste) in partnership with the local NGO Move Forward (MF).
