Participants of GWIM 57 together with the Ambassador of Libya to Indonesia

By: Rara Sekar Larasati

Imagine 25 women leaders coming together from China, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Libya, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam. All gathered in a one-month workshop, transcending language, cultural and social differences to learn from one another to make a difference in the communities they serve.

Imagine the vast amount of inspiration one could gain if one was a part of that beautiful journey. Especially for women whom are eager to become agents of change, this is definitely the platform to empower them and enhance their potentials. A place to be constantly inspired.

I ordered a Lifestraw and the cap-holder plastic was broken when it got there. No big deal, but I sent it back for an intact one. Got it, used it once, got one good slug of water before it plugged up. No amount of backflushing attempts opened it up. It seems that even if the filter worked faily well, the dymamic of having to pull on it instead of pushing or using gravity makes me pessimistic about its usefulness at all.

  Tech Fair in Sarongge, Cianjur

By: Christal Setyobudi

I couldn’t be more excited to go on my first field trip with Kopernik. I, along with Lincoln, a Kopernik Project Officer, set off on the mission to reach out to a farmer community in Sarongge village, Cianjur, West Java by hosting a Tech Fair. The location is close to the area of Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park. It is a beautiful biosphere reserve and is home to various protected flora and fauna. The people who live around the area are mostly farmers.

Advantages: Long lasting, Ease of use, Value for money, Well made/Durable, Quality I'm really really impressed with this. It filters more (and to a finer level) than the other filters in my price range. It does take a few seconds to suck the water through, yes, but that's because the pores are so fine. Remember to blow out the excess water before putting it back in your pocket or it'll leak into your pocket. I drank out of a dirty mud puddle, and the water came through nice and clean. I love it!

If you follow the blog, you may already know my story: I was a Kopernik fellow for three months in Timor-Leste. A fellow works in the field with Kopernik’s partner NGOs to assist with implementing and assessing the distribution of technology. It is a great opportunity to develop skills learned in the classroom or still new from the workforce. Working with Kopernik you get the chance to see firsthand the impact your efforts have on real lives.

This item was used as a class demonstration on emergency survival . The class was very impressed with the ease of use as well as the compact size and light weight. This is a great item to have in your survival supplies.

I used the LifeStraw when I was down in the Peruvian Amazon and it worked as advertised. Though I took precautions before drinking water when I could, the use of this device made me feel confident I would not get sick, and I didn't get sick. The Life Straw rocks!!!

  Farewell meeting in Biqueli.

By: Olga Permanyer

Timor Leste is a new country with a population of just over one million people. For the past three months I have worked as a Kopernik fellow in the small village of Biqueli on Ataúro Island. My efforts in Biqueli not only brightened my life, but also the lives of hundreds on the island through the Kopernik program "Bring clean, bright light to Ataúro."
