Provide Cameroonian students with clean and reliable lighting.
Energy poverty and the use of kerosene in Cameroon: Approximately 90% of the rural population and 74% of the total population in Cameroon lack access to electricity. Kerosene is the most common form of fuel-based lighting in the country, but it is expensive and endangers the environment and the health and safety of families.
Light Africa will use the Firefly solar lamps to provide clean, efficient and reliable off-grid lighting that is less expensive than kerosene to African consumers. This will ensure that families get better value for their money and that health and environmental risks are mitigated. The technology will also be used to sensitize national and local policymakers on the Firefly and other similar technologies provided by Kopernik which can help improve the lives of the poor.
At least 1,000 students.
Public school students.
Light Africa will rent or sell the product to public school students in their final year. The list of schools to benefit will be derived from consultation meetings with the Ministries of Higher Education and National Education, the Ministry of Energy and the UNESCO National Commission in Cameroon.
