Help provide clean light to students in rural Nigeria

Nigeria

Light up student’s homes across Nigeria with environmentally friendly solar lanterns.

Problem

Inadequate power supply in Igbotako for families and students: Most families are unable to afford generators and kerosene lamps which hinders the ability of students to study at night. Furthermore, these power sources produce carbon monoxide emissions that can lead to serious health complications and even death.

Proposed solution

The K-light solar lanterns will address the lighting needs of rural families, in particular students, during evening hours. The provision of the K-lights will also eliminate health hazards and costs associated with the use of kerosene lamps and generators. The technology will be distributed free of cost to 150 students from Igbotako who are among the top 10 in their class and meet the other pre-determined minimum requirements. 150 poor students and families in rural areas will benefit from this effort, and reaching a total 0f 1000 people.

Number of people who will benefit

The proposed immediate beneficiaries of this project are 150 poor students living in rural areas. The project will benefit a total of 1,000 people from 150 families.
