Give cleaner, cheaper and safer light to women heads of households in rural Uganda.
Lack of electricity creates tremendous hardship for rural communities. The use of candle lights, known as “tadooba” in Uganda, is costly and poses great fire risk to the mostly grass-thatched houses.
d.light S250s will provide cleaner, cheaper and safer light for the community.
150 households
This project will focus on women heads of households, particularly widows, single mothers and the elderly, in Buwanume and Kamuli Sabawali Parishes in the Nabwigulu sub-county of Kamuli district.
For school children, since they live in the dormitory and as such are separated from their parents, the school will provide the technology for free rent as long as they are in the dormitory, with the option to buy when they graduate or decide to leave. If their parents choose to have the technology at home, then the product will be sold at a locally appropriate price.
For households, technology will be sold at a locally appropriate price and a lease with option to buy system will also be developed.
