Help provide agrarian villages in Nigeria with clean and safe solar lighting for household use.
No grid electricity for agrarian communities: In Obitti Village, Imo State, Nigeria, farming families do not have access to grid electricity. Kerosene lamps, which produce dangerous toxic fumes and can start fires, are used for household lighting impacting negatively on the health of local communities.
The solar lamps will provide clean and safe lighting for households without access to grid electricity. The solar lighting will also eliminate the fumes and the risk of fires presented by the use of kerosene lamps. Additional benefits include children being able to study during evening hours and service providers such as local health centres will be able to extend business hours.
50 households selected from the Obitti Village Chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and from other community associations.
Beneficiaries will be selected from the Obitti Village Chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN). This local AFAN Chapter is made up of women, men and youth farmers who cultivate different crop varieties. Beneficiaries will also be selected from community age grade associations.
The solar lamps will be sold to the beneficiaries at a discounted rate.
