Help remote indigenous communities in Papua with solar lights, saving them money otherwise spent on kerosene and candles.
This project is also fundraising on Kopernik's Japanese website.
Indigenous communities in the highlands region in Papua are extremely isolated, and do not not have access to electricity. They primarily rely on kerosene and candles for lighting - lighting options which are expensive, dangerous and cause respiratory problems.
With these solar lanterns we will help the indigenous communities to save money, and the money can be put towards other family needs.
About 1500 people from indigenous communities in the highlands region of Papua will benefit from this technology.
The beneficiaries of the technology will be the indigenous communities whose daily lives depend on crops they can grow at home and sell in the market. We will select the communities far from town, and also those who live close to town but who do not have electricity, thus spending much of their household income on candles and kerosene.
Our agent in the area will distribute the technology. The product will be sold at an affordable price to the indigenous communities who are in need - for now we propose 1 USD.
A credit payment scheme will be offered to those who cannot afford to pay in full. We will select beneficiaries who live in communities with whom we have a relationship and who really need the solar light.
