The Freedom Toaster is essentially a distribution platform that allows you to make massive amounts of information and content, from a variety of sources, available to end users - without the need for huge capital outlay or infrastructure development.
Put simply, the Freedom Toaster is a unique piece of technology in the form of a terminal or kiosk, similar to an ATM or Jukebox, which allows users to burn almost anything digital – from electronic textbooks or training manuals, to software, music and movies - onto a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, all at the touch of a few buttons.
The core value comes with cost-savings in downloading content from the internet, lower carbon footprint (no paper whatsoever is needed) and most importantly, the content can be made relevant to people who really need it but more often than not cannot afford their proprietary equivalents
Breadbin sold 64 units to UNISA who use these kiosks to deliver students’ full course ware in a digital format, which saves students and UNISA millions per annum in hard copy and distribution costs (as well as saving a few trees).
All units are networked to the internet, which allows for reduced maintenance costs, remote management of content and on-demand log files for usage reports.
The Freedom Toaster is GREEN by nature! Digital content is transferred without the need to use large volumes of paper, making the solution easy on the environment.
The purchase of a Freedom Toaster includes the following:
1 - Content delivery kiosk: Industrial specification computer componentary with touch screen user interface; CD, DVD, USB and print content delivery options encased in a permanent, secure powder coated kiosk. (independent UPS included but excludes printer)
2 - Custom branding: Powder coat colour alignment, customized UV treated vinyl print, back lit wings ends and software interface branding specifically to the client corporate ID.
3 - Delivery: Delivery of all units specific to each location across the country (within SA – not including cross border delivery).
4 - Installation: Permanent installation of each unit in each location fitting the hardware by means of raw bolts into firm substrate (cement or concrete only). Also included is network configuration, powering and testing of each unit. (within SA)
5 - Training of custodians: Training of each custodian at each location utilising their machine will cover, (1) User experience training (2) Troubleshooting and reporting protocol. Manuals and a DVD incorporating all of the above will be left behind for custodian reference purposes. (within S
6 - Training of content personnel: Client appointed personnel will be trained as custodians plus how to load content and use the systems full capabilities and potential. (within SA)
7 - Loading of content: Loading of initial core content categories. Terms & conditions apply.
This is a hard question to answer because as the unit can easily operate without much local technical support as they are networked and we can sort these issues out over the network but an understanding of Ubuntu and Plone would be extremely valuable. If the custodian has basic to intermediate ICT skills the machine would very easily be able to be supported locally. We would need an accountable custodian to contact with cross border delivery. If these people are trainable there should not be an issue. We also supply book and DVD training material to support the custodian.
The machines need maintenance so a local hardware maintenance support company will need to be engaged with!
