On 9th and 10th of July, Kopernik visited two locations in Bali together with Benesse Corporation, a Japanese company which focuses on correspondence education and publishing. For two days, we visited schools in order to get better understanding about education practice in Indonesia.
Ms Yumi Narushima and Mr Takaho Miki from Benesse talking with the Parents from SD Sayan 1
The first location we visited is SD Sayan 1, the public elementary school located not far from the Kopernik office in Ubud. At the school we met with students from grades 4, 5 and 6, their teachers and also some parents.
Even though it was at the time holiday season for schools in Bali, the students were really enthusiastic to meet us. About 50 kids showed up at the school and, for about 3 hours, together we learned about science- related subjects in a fun and hands-on way.
The second location we visited is Yayasan Lascarya Parama Seva , an NGO that works in education advocacy and operates in Karang Asem, East Bali . It is located quite far from our office, about 3 hours away by car. Similar with the first location, we met with about 30 students, teachers and also parents. There we conducted a small, interactive class about science-related subjects, such as energy and characteristic of living things.
This has been an exciting new experience for Kopernik and Benesse , as we had the opportunity to meet kids in Bali, who spent part of their holiday together with us to learn about science in a fun way.
