3/20(水)に行われたHAPPY DAY TOKYO 2013にコペルニクはブース出展させて頂きました。
お越し頂いた皆様は誠にありがとうございました。

「HAPPY DAY TOKYO 2013」は国際連合が、3月20日を「International Day of Happiness（国際幸福デー）」と制定した事を受けて「この日を日本でも広め、幸福について考え、感謝する日として定着させたい」という主催者の思いから始まったプロジェクトです。「HAPPYDAYに幸福の種を」を合言葉に、トークショーやミニコンサート、体験活動、物販・展示・飲食ブース、映画上映等、当日に用意される様々なコンテンツによって、楽しさや喜びを提供していました。

コペルニクがブースに展示したNazavaの浄水器、d.lightのソーラーランタン、どこでも綺麗な水を飲めるライフストロー、自分で度を調整できる眼鏡のアドスペックなど、テクノロジーを手にとった皆様に楽しんで頂けました。実際に浄水器できれいにした水を飲んでみたり、アドスペックの度の調整を実際に体験して頂いたり、多くの方々に実際にテクノロジーの効果を実感して頂きました。

Do you know how much water you use each day?

For those who have effortless access to crystal clear water just from a turn of the tap (or even motion detecting taps that spurt water before you have even mentally prepared yourself for the attack of the strong jet), this question is not of much importance. However, for some, accessing water is much less straight forward. Not only does each trip to the water source require a significant time commitment and physical effort, sanitary storage of collected water also requires careful consideration.

Greetings from Kenya! This is Denise, Kopernik’s Technology Monitoring Fellow, who is in the field right now so that you can follow, in the comfort of your own home, what is happening with the Q Drums and d.light solar lamps that were distributed in western Kenya in 2012 thanks to generous donations from all over the world.

Kopernik is a technology marketplace for the developing world. We have reached more than 90,000 people to date with life-changing technologies such as solar lights and water filters. The people benefitting from our technologies live in some of the most remote parts of the developing world, and have limited access to basic needs like electricity and safe drinking water. However, to our surprise, we have also received many enquiries from environmentally-conscious urban residents who would also like to buy our innovative, eco-friendly technologies.

We’re big fans of women in the Kopernik office.

In a coup for gender balance, exactly half of our team members here in Ubud are women.

But when it comes to our projects, we don’t aim for balance. We think that women deserve an extra helping hand when it comes to household chores like cooking and collecting water. That’s why many of the technologies we work with are specifically designed to help make life easier for women in the developing world.

今回のブログはイベントをご支援いただいた、サポーターの北郷さんからの寄稿です。

2月23日(土)、子ども向けのイベント「こどもトラストセミナー」をコモンズ投信様と共催いたしました。当日お越しいただいた皆様、どうもありがとうございました！

イベントでは、6歳～13歳の子どもたちに対し、途上国の抱える課題について、どんな問題があり、どういう風に解決するか、子ども同士で話し合い、発表をしてもらいました。

「途上国の人たちは、どんなことに困っているかな？みんなはどんな問題を解決したいかな？」という問いかけに対し、ほとんどの子どもたちが「きれいな水を飲めるようにしたい」と答えていました。これは、きれいな水が飲めないと病気になってしまうし、水をきれいにするために煮沸をすれば、その分、木が伐採されてしまうといった理由からです。

そして、どうしたらみんながきれいな水を飲めるようになるかを尋ねると、
「ろ過装置やもっと楽に水を運べるものを送る。そのために募金活動をする。」といった意見から、「モノがあっても使い方が分からなければダメで、字が読めない人でも伝わるように説明しないといけない。絵を使ったらどうだろう？」といった意見、あるいは空気中の水蒸気を水に変えるアイディアなど、大人顔負けの意見がたくさんでていました。

Think back to February 2010. Vancouver was hosting the Winter Olympics, the first generation iPad was still a month away from being released, and a Snowicane hit New York, bringing the city to a halt.

But most importantly for us, on 19 February 2010 Kopernik was born.

It was only a few years ago, but already it feels like much longer.

In just three years we have reached more than 90,000 people in 13 countries with life-changing technology.

We relocated from snowy New York to sunny Bali, and our team has grown to 20 people.

インドネシアのメンタワイ諸島への旅行を計画する事はサーフィン愛好家にとって人生における夢です。このスマトラ西岸の70の島々の連なりはサーファーにとっての楽園であり、数えきれないほどの世界トップのサーファー達がここでのサーフィン休暇を自慢しています。
しかし、美しいビーチと贅沢なサーフィンリゾートの下に、メンタワイ諸島の厳しい生活の現実が隠れています。

その完璧な波を作り出す環境—強い風、激しい海流、浅い岩礁—は、同時にメンタワイ諸島を本土への航海や貿易を制限し、孤立させているのです。
