Kopernik assisted Panasonic with the implementation of the company’s ‘100 Thousand Solar Lanterns Project’ that aims to distribute a 100,000 solar lights across various Southeast Asian countries by the end of 2018.

THE PROBLEM

Households, public health facilities, schools and community centres in remote areas of East Sumba often rely on candles and kerosene for lighting. However, inefficient lighting sources represent high costs to families and community groups, and pose a negative impact on both the environment and health. We have determined a demand for solar lighting solutions in villages where electricity supply is largely unreliable. Panasonic’s ‘100 Thousand Solar Lanterns Project’ addresses this issue by supplying solar lights to public health facilities, schools and community centres in off-grid locations.

THE SOLUTION

Panasonic will implement the ‘100 Thousand Solar Lanterns Project’, aligned with thee United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Kopernik continues to partner with Panasonic during this time to distribute solar lanterns throughout Indonesia to improve access to clean, safe, and reliable sources of light.

Over the past two years, Kopernik has partnered with Panasonic to distribute a total of 498 solar lanterns in East Sumba and West Timor, Indonesia, through the global electronics giant’s ‘100 Thousand Solar Lanterns Project’. Through this project, Panasonic aims to distribute a significant 100,000 solar lights in underdeveloped areas across various Southeast Asian countries by 2018 to commemorate the organisation’s 100-year anniversary. Kopernik is assisting with the project implementation in Indonesia.
