THE PROBLEM
The practice of collecting and boiling water for families living in remote areas of Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia, is time-consuming and costly. This is especially true for people with disabilities in wheelchairs who have limited mobility. Improper purification practices can lead to health problems such as waterborne disease and diarrhea.
THE SOLUTION
By providing Nazava Bening 2 water filters, we will give access to safe drinking water to people with disabilities in Karangasem. A Nazava Bening 2 water filter allows families to purify and drink safe water without boiling it. The tulip filter can filter up to 7000 liters of water or last for approximately three years of use.
We will also provide three large Nazava Bening XL water filters and two units of the Sun King Home 60 solar home system for the newly built public library. This is our contribution to a collective effort to encourage an interest in reading amongst the local community of Karangasem.
THE EXPECTED IMPACT
The Nazava Bening 2 water filter will be distributed to the families, whilst the Nazava Bening XL and Sun King Home 60 solar home systems will be distributed to the newly built community library. All technologies will be provided for free. Our local partner will meet with the families who receive the water filters and explain how to use and maintain this technology. The replacement tulip filter will be distributed a year after the water filters are received, or when the indicator provided by Nazava shows that it is time to change the filter.
