Andrea is a development professional, social entrepreneur ,and writer. Her work focuses on how community participation, social mobilization, and technology enable ordinary people to have more power in the decisions that affect their lives, particularly people in poor, fragile and crisis-affected environments.

Her work focuses on how community participation, social mobilization, and technology enable ordinary people to have more power in the decisions that affect their lives, particularly people in poor, fragile and crisis-affected environments.
Andrea is co-founder of Avaaz, a global social movement, whose 10 million members use technology to act on global issues, and whose work has been featured in the New York Times, The Economist, and The Guardian. She has experienced conflict and political transition firsthand through her work in various countries, including Indonesia, Timor Leste, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Burma/Myanmar.
In Indonesia, Andrea worked on one of the largest anti-poverty programs in the world, which became a model for community-driven decision-making and development in a national, post-conflict reconstruction and state-building program in Afghanistan. She was also a founder of the World Bank's Justice for the Poor program, which takes a community-driven approach to justice and governance reform. Andrea has worked for the World Bank and the United Nations, and has degrees from Oxford University and the London School of Economics. She grew up moving between Burma, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and more, and currently lives in New York.
