We are helping women-led micro-enterprises affected by the economic impact of COVID-19 in Bali by providing capacity development support to strengthen their business sustainability and resilience.

  • Capacity Development

THE PROBLEM

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on Bali's economy, with the tourism sector being hit the hardest. The coronavirus outbreak has led to massive job losses and reductions in incomes across the island. Its effects have had a disproportionate impact on different segments of the population, including women. A key finding from Kopernik’s Rapid Assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on livelihoods in Bali uncovered that female respondents have been more severely impacted, experiencing a reduction in income of 72%, while the income of male respondents has been reduced by 52%.

THE SOLUTION

Building on our rapid assessment results, we will select women-led SMEs in Bali that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to provide support through a capacity development program, connecting them to new markets, including on-line platforms, identifying new opportunities, leveraging their existing skills and knowledge, as well as providing access to re-skilling opportunities, to strengthen their resilience during times of crisis, and beyond.

THE EXPECTED IMPACT

  • To support women-led SMEs to rebuild or to keep their business operating and profitable
  • To identify new opportunities, new market channels, improve the marketing strategy, tools, channels, and/or assets of the SMEs
  • To build resilience and sustainability of women-led SMEs in Bali
