Pay As You Go

This project is implemented by Yayasan Kopernik on behalf of our partner who provided grant funding for this project.

We are introducing a pay-as-you-go payment system to connect last mile communities in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara to sustainable lighting sources.

Project Type

  • Technology Distribution

THE PROBLEM

Some areas in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara do not yet have access to reliable lighting. Therefore, communities usually use kerosene lamps as a lighting source, which can be quite costly and can also be harmful to respiratory health.

While alternative energy sources such as solar lights can be beneficial, many families do not have sufficient purchasing power to buy solar home systems, given the relatively high costs of the units.

THE SOLUTION

By introducing the pay-as-you-go or PAYGO system, communities in the last mile will be able to access alternative energy sources such as solar home systems through an affordable payment scheme. In addition, the system could contribute to households practicing healthy financial habits such as financial planning and budget management.

THE EXPECTED IMPACT

The PAYGO system will increase people’s access to solar home systems, providing them with a sustainable and reliable lighting source that can support their daily activities.
