Supporting Livelihoods Of Small-Scale Fishers And Farmers In Papua – Cacao

This project is implemented by Yayasan Kopernik and PT Kopernik on behalf of our partner who provided grant funding for this project.

We support small-scale cacao farmers by introducing user-friendly technologies, improving cacao quality, diversifying products, and expanding market access to boost productivity, sales, and income.

Project Type

  • Test Potential Solutions

THE PROBLEM

Small-scale cacao farmers often lack knowledge of climate-resilient cultivation methods and pest and disease management. They rely on traditional tools, resulting in low productivity and inconsistent quality. Additionally, they have limited market access and depend on conventional cacao bean processing.

THE SOLUTION

Kopernik is establishing a hub to empower communities by introducing accessible, user-friendly technologies such as solar dryers and fermentation boxes. We have improved cacao bean quality and diversified value-added products (VAPs) through capacity-building activities, refined production processes, and expanded market opportunities.

THE EXPECTED IMPACT

This intervention aims to improve cacao bean quality, increase sales performance by expanding market reach, and create additional revenue streams for small-scale cacao farmers by equipping them with essential skills and knowledge in cultivation and processing.
