Bidding Goodbye to the Apples of Our Eye

While we are normally not ones to brag, we shall make an exception to proclaim that we have quite the eye for talent. Last week Kopernik bid farewell to two very talented team members: Project Officer Cindy Nawilis and Fellow Olga Permanyer. And, because we place considerable care in assessing and documenting impact, this blog is dedicated to Cindy and Olga’s considerable impact at Kopernik.

Cindy Nawilis, Project Officer

Cindy joined the Kopernik team as a fellow in Indonesia. It didn’t take long for her to impress the daylights out of everyone—so she was asked to come on as a project officer.

While here, she led three projects, including Agents of Change, Agents of Technology, Empowering Indonesian Women with Clean Water Business Opportunities, and Smarter Cooking for Indian Women. Cindy’s efforts have empowered hundreds of women and distributed life-improving technology to thousands of individuals.

Cindy possesses limitless curiosity which made her contributions to K-Lab Weekly, Kopernik’s blog and monthly newsletter invaluable. She also lent her pipes to narrate the Kopernik video on “Light up Oecusse.”

We’re going to have to put our heads together to figure out what we’re going to do without her. But, one thing is for sure: we wish her the very best!

Olga Permanyer, Fellow

Olga joined Kopernik as a fellow in Timor-Leste before her final semester of her master’s studies at UPC University in Barcelona.

In Timor-Leste, she conducted two impact assessments on the distribution of Solvatten and d.light products on Atauro Island. Here she is pictured presenting her findings to the team at headquarters. The final written report is undergoing final edits, check back soon!

We award Olga with the “Most Committed Fellow Award” for walking three hours to a town with Internet in order to submit her weekly progress report and blog posts ... and then three hours back! That’s a six-hour weekly stroll on behalf of Kopernik! (Please, for Olga’s sake, read a few of her blog postings)

Kopernik is grateful for the time Cindy and Olga spent with us. To bid them farewell and show our appreciation, we threw them a party--Kopernik style. Below are some snapshots from their send off. Thanks for everything and best of luck, Cindy and Olga!
