Now Students Can Drink Clean Water at School

- We have distributed 43 Nazava water filters to 29 kindergartens and primary schools in Bojonegoro

- We’re hearing that water from this filter is popular with the children

We are entering the dry season here in East Java, Indonesia. It is dusty and the sun is burning. Wells and ricefields are beginning to dry out. For the residents of Gayam district, Bojonegoro, the dry season is the time to plant a second crop like corn or soybeans, while some fields are left fallow. This dry season looks like continuing for at least another month, so people have to wait patiently to start working on their wet rice fields.

THIS MONTH WE'VE BEGUN TO DISTRIBUTE CLEAN WATER FILTERS TO SCHOOLS IN GAYAM.

It's a joy to be able to help children drink free clean water everyday at school, and we have received a warm welcome from teachers and students each time we've visited their schools.

Six volunteers from the Women's Cooperative of Banyu Urip, in Karang Taruna Sudu village, as well as kindergarten teachers, are helping us in our efforts to introduce simple water filter technology into these schools. The volunteer team are whole-hearted in their help. Although at first they were a little hesitant, they've become increasingly adept at presenting material to students and parents. We've already visited 29 schools, and there are still a few more to go. The team is still buoyant with enthusiasm.

We have distributed 43 Nazava water filters to 29 kindergartens and primary schools in Bojonegoro, meaning a total of 1698 students now have free access to safe drinking water at school.

A few days ago we returned to some of the schools that we had previously visited. We were very happy to see students taking advantage of the water filters there.

One of the teachers in Gayam State Primary School Number 1 even told us that they had refilled the water filter twice that day. We’re hearing that water from this filter is popular with the children. Let's hope that it can reduce their interest in unhealthy sugary drinks.

PEOPLE IN GAYAM STILL USE WELLS AND REFILLABLE GALLON BOTTLES FOR THEIR DAILY DRINKING AND COOKING NEEDS. A FAMILY OF FIVE PAYS A MINIMUM OF RP 50,000 (US$5) PER MONTH FOR WATER.

We hope that in future an increasing number of people will take advantage of Kopernik’s simple water filter technology. In addition to the water being clean and healthy, this technology can save families money on water.

To bring this water filter technology to the people, we are being helped by Banyu Urip Women’s Cooperative. Let's hope that in future an increasing number of supporters will promote the advantages of this technology and accelerate its acceptance by society.
