We are on a country-wide search for ideas with the potential for big impact in Indonesia. The winning ideas will be awarded tools to help turn those ideas into reality!

idealists (or pragmatists with answers) hoping to help the underserved in Indonesia by solving social issues in the areas of agriculture, education, energy and environment, health, information and communications technology (ICT), and water and

The promising social enterprise award

The Promising Social Enterprise Award

A panel of experts in impact investing and social entrepreneurship will select a social innovation idea that answers a market need and has the potential generate revenues and be financially sustainable. Award includes IDR 3 million, mentoring for a year and access to angels and investors’ networks.

The Innovate for Good Prize

Innovate for Good, a Microsoft YouthSpark program, will select 10 individuals with the best ideas from the AusAID Indonesian Social Innovator Award competition to attend an exclusive conference to be held in Jakarta. At this event, you will meet other social innovators as well as receive training opportunities and resources to help bring your ideas closer to reality.

Microsoft YouthSpark is a companywide initiative designed to create opportunities for hundreds of millions of youth around the world. Through partnerships with governments, nonprofits and businesses, we aim to empower youth to imagine and realize their full potential by connecting them with greater education, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities. Klinik Asuransi Premi Sampah

Won the AusAID Indonesian Social Innovator Award, the Promising Social Enterprise Award, and the People's Choice Award.   Gamal, 23 years old, is from Malang, East Java. He works as researcher and doctor, and is also studying for a Master degree in the University of Brawijaya. His health-related innovation is called Klinik Asuransi Premi Sampah, a health clinic offering an insurance method that uses garbage as the payment. The idea both improves the environment and enables people to pay for their health costs.

Motorbike Ambulance

Won the Serving the Last Mile Award.   Mansetus Balawala, 40 years old, graduated from Nusa Cendana University with a major in law. He lives in Larantuka, East Nusa Tenggara and works at Yayasan Kesehatan untuk Semua (YKS). His innovation, Motorbike Ambulance, provides a service that uses motorcycles to transport midwives to patients and also transport patients to the hospital in his last mile community in East Flores.



1000 Media Pembelajaran Huruf Braille

Mashoedah, 42 years old, works as a lecturer at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. He has created an innovative tool equipped with buttons and sound that can help students with visual impairments to improve their reading capability. He pitched 1000 Media Pembelajaran Huruf Braille untuk Tuna Netra, with the goal of producing 1000 more of these tools for students across Indonesia.

Ma’ruf Kasim, 42 years old, is a lecturer at Haluoleo University in Kendari. He pitched Kurungan Apung Budidaya Rumput Laut, an easy to make and very durable tool to cultivate seaweed free of infection.

Alun Ulin

Aulia Amanda Santoso, 23 years old, is a graduate of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bandung and now works as a head designer of Alun-Ulin for Sahabat Kota. She pitched a movement of Alun-Ulin that empowers children to become agents of change in their local neighbourhoods through education.

Halimatus Sa’Diyah, 22 years old, is a university student majoring in agricultural science. Digester Cosmo is a waste processing system to make compost with a manageable temperature using modern technology, an idea that can help farmers to produce their own compost.

Paundra Noorbaskoro, 21 years old, is a fishery and oceanography student at Brawijaya University in Malang. His idea, A Coral Nanny: Donasi Sebagai Usaha Menebus Kesalahan Masa Lalu, involves an adoption system of coral beds and self-support from fishing communities.

Bank Lebah Madu

Ika Yuni Agustin, 30 years old, graduated from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, and now works as a researcher in Komunitas Penjaga Pulau at Sumbawa Besar, West Nusa Tenggara. Her idea is Bank Lebah Madu, to cultivate special plants to maintain honeybee populations that have been threatened to the point of extinction by climate change.

Dedi Kusuma Wijaya, 27 years old, lives in Jakarta and works in human resources for Yayasan Gerakan Indonesia Mengajar. His innovation, called LanjutSekolah.org is a crowdfunding platform to give scholarships to disadvantaged students.

Khoirurochmah, 19 years old, is a student at Brawijaya University in Malang, majoring in the social economy of fisheries. DANI (Pestisida Nabati Multi Fungsi; Sahabat Sejati Petani Ramah Lingkungan) is an eco-friendly pesticide made from the combination of biofarmaka plantation, vegetables waste, fruits and rice water.

Deny Anjelus Iyai, 35 years old, works as a civil servant in Universitas Negeri Papua. He pitched Improving Small-scale Traditional Free-range Pig Farmers in Manokwari. His innovation is to set up nests inside pens, so that the gilts or sows will not go outside seeking its nest. While pigs inside the house, its wastes can be collected and be used as bio-fuel produced from bio-digester.

Andy Suryansah, 23 years old, is a student at Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya. He created Falle, a mosquito-killing electric tool using audio-sonic technology to attract mosquitos.


Darsih Jutawan (Darcy Sawnick), 62 years old, works as a general manager for Indonesia Organic, Bali. IndonesiaOrganic.com is a portal linking organic farmers and buyers. The portal helps the farmers to grow organic food as well as giving customers easier access to high quality organic plants.

Naufal Rospriandana, 23 years old, graduated from the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) with a major in geology. The innovation is called SMART Exhaust Technology, a tool with technology that is able to reduce air pollution from automobiles and motorbikes.

Wegit Triantoro, 20 years old, lives in Depok, West Java and studies industrial engineering at the University of Indonesia. He pitched Filter Portabel Sebagai Solusi Masalah Air Bersih di Daerah Pelosok dan Pada Kondisi Banjir, a simple, user-friendly portable water filter designed for remote or flood-affected areas.

Agus Widayoko, 24 years old, is a teacher who lives in Banyuwangi, East Java. He called his idea Briket Pembunuh Malaria. The idea is to make briquettes out of readily-available corn cobs and lemongrass. When the briquettes burn, the essence of lemongrass can help kill malaria-carrying Anopheles mosquitoes.

Ilham Salafudin, 18 years old, is a senior high school student at SMK Negeri 2, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. He built his own innovation, Alat Pelit Air (Alat Sederhana Manfaat Mendunia), which is a simple tool that can help to control water use when people are doing daily activities such as washing dishes and clothes or watering plants.

Bahar Sangkur Gusasih, 20 years old, is a medical student at Udayana University, Bali. He pitched Gerakan 1000 Ikan Cupang. The idea is to distribute 1000 mosquito-eating fish (Ikan cupang) to communities with the long-term goal of preventing dengue fever in Bali.

Ary Kusuma Ningsih, 21 years old, is a student at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, majoring in computer and electronic science. She named her idea Timbangan SONETA, a customised measurement tool equiped with sound for people who suffer from visual impairments.

Yanuar Pratama Firdaus, 26 years old, graduated from Parahyangan Catholic University and now works as an entrepreneur for House the House, Bandung. His idea is called Kiostatika: Kios Barter Plastik Masyarakat Indonesia. At the kiosks, people can exchange used plastic packaging for household products.

Arrifah Ratna Dewi, 19 years old, is a veterinary student at Airlangga University in Surabaya. Her idea is Sekolah Kesmavet, an informal school that will educate the community about healthy living near farm animals.

Ferry Gelluny Putra, 21 years old, is from Banda Aceh. He graduated from Syiah Kuala University with a major in communication science. His idea, Get Aceh, weaves together the themes of energy and environment, community empowerment and tourism. Get Aceh will provide a new alternative livelihood for local communities in Sumatra.

Elwin Purwanto, 21 years old, is a student at Brawijaya University. He pitched Biogas Digester Portabel; Solusi Kebutuhan Energi Masyarakat Berbasis Konsep Ilmu Fisika. His idea is to build a biogas digester that not only can convert organic material into biogas faster, but is also simple and small enough to move around easily.

Teguh Ersada Natail Sitepu, 21 years old, is a student at Sumatra Utara University. He pitched The Simple Installation for Recycling Wudu Secondhand Water. Wudu is a cleansing activity which muslims do before they pray, five times a day, meaning wudu consumes a lot of water. With Teguh’s tool, wudu water will be recycled, and can be used for gardening, cleaning, and washing.

Suharyanto, 40 years old, works as a civil servant in Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta. His idea, Diabetes Food Tools, helps people who suffer from Diabetes Mellitus with portable tools that can measure the portion of their food. The tools allow them to control their own nutrition intake.

Wae Rebo Power

Ronaldiaz Hartantyo is from Bandung, West Java. A graduate from the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), he now works as an entrepreneur. He pitched Wae Rebo Power, a hydro-energy initiative to generate power from 12 water springs in a remote village of Wae Rebo, Flores, in order to increase the village’s coffee crop and improve the economy of the village.
