Thank you to all who contributed.

Although the mortality rate in India has significantly decreased for the past five years, the most recent data from the World Bank shows that 38 out of 1,000 babies in India will not reach one year of age, and a report by the United Nations Population Fund also revealed that Nigeria and India are estimated to account for over one third of all maternal deaths worldwide in 2015, with an approximate 58,000 maternal deaths (19%) and 45,000 maternal deaths (15%). The World Health Organization says that these deaths could be prevented by providing assistance for mums-to-be during pregnancy and after childbirth, and access to health services. However, in rural areas of India, many expectant mothers cannot afford basic health care and give birth with little or no professional help and in poor facilities.

How we can help:

By connecting JANMA Clean Birth Kit, mums-to-be in rural India will no longer have to give birth using unsafe and dirty instruments. JANMA Clean Birth Kit contains ensures the ‘six cleans' (clean hands, clean perineum, clean delivery surface, clean cord cutting and clean tying instruments, and clean cutting surface) that can prevent infections and reduce the risk of early childhood mortality, and morbidity at the time of childbirth.

Who are we working with:

We will help mums-to-be in rural areas of north and northeast of India, who have very limited access and knowledge to a safe, clean birthing process, by providing clean birth kits for their assisting midwives. Bodhi Health Education, our local partner, has experience in providing training for midwives and aims to improve healthcare services in India.

The clean birth kits will be distributed through midwives trained by Bodhi Health Education. The local partner will teach the midwives on how to use the clean birth kit correctly.
