Kopernik Partners with Ricoh to Accelerate Sustainable Development Through the VR for SDGs Initiative

Kopernik is pleased to announce our new collaboration with Ricoh to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the VR for SDGs initiative. As part of this program, we will produce 360-degree virtual reality (VR) videos. Such videos have the potential to convey messages and give the opportunity for viewers to experience social and environmental challenges in a way that conventional images or videos cannot, and provide an immersive experience without having to be in a particular location.

Albert Einstein famously said, “If I had an hour to solve a problem, I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and five minutes thinking about solutions.”

Einstein believed the quality of the solution generated is in direct proportion to one’s ability to identify and understand the problem to be solved. With this spirit in mind, we believe it is critical to understand problems and challenges to the best extent possible, so that those who are willing and in a position to solve them, can find the most appropriate and effective solutions.

All VR videos produced through this initiative will be published on a platform, which will be made widely accessible.

VR videos have the potential to convey messages and give the opportunity for viewers to experience social and environmental challenges without having to be in the location.

We are inviting young Indonesians to join the program through the #VRforSDGs Fellowship Program. We will select three individuals who will have an opportunity to learn about story development and VR video production and receive Ricoh THETA cameras to support their filming process.

Kopernik will also work with Ricoh on a series of workshops which will include the use of the VR for SDGs platform as part of a new business creation program through Ricoh’s TRIBUS initiative. TRIBUS recruits innovators from inside and outside the company and leverages Ricoh's resources in the innovation process. Ricoh’s vision is to solve a wide range of problems faced by society -- going beyond the company’s core business of supporting workplaces and the field of imaging.

Through this collaboration, we can support the development of solutions to social and environmental issues and accelerate the achievement of SDGs.
